How do we work together?
I’m glad you asked. Once you contact me, we have a discussion in which you outline what you are looking for. If I think I can give you what you want, I’ll send you a short list of questions for you to answer. This part is free, and you’ll be doing most of the talking.
Next, you fill out a brief. No matter which services you need from me, this brief forms the basis for my work. I’ll take the time to make sure I understand your specific needs, and my specific mandate. This part is also free.
Then, I send you a project proposal that outlines what you are going to get and how much it should cost. You approve the proposal and I go to work.
For consultation work, I will need to spend more time with you and will ask you many more questions. The materials I will deliver in these cases are usually much longer and more detailed. So usually, these projects take longer and cost more than, say, writing a product brochure for you.
how much do I charge?
My billing philosophy is simple. You will be charged for the hours that I spend working on your project at a flat hourly rate of $100, with a three hour minimum. This includes services such as meeting with you, phone calls, presentations, and creative developments. Any external expenses (like travel, or special materials) will be budgeted and invoiced separately; you’ll approve these expenses before they are incurred.
how can you pay me?
Certified cheque only, please.
what about graphic design?
I do a few things very well, and leave the rest to other experts. If design is what you need, I can help you find the right person or company for the right job. Just ask.
What if I already have a marketing person on staff? Then I can help them do a better job.
What if I don’t have a big budget to spend on marketing? You don’t need one. cōjent doesn’t have a big budget, but here you are reading this. I can help you reach your target customer – and your marketing objectives – working with what you have.
I’ve never used a consultant or copywriter before. How should I proceed? Just like shoes, cars, and love, you need to shop around before you can commit. Call 3 freelancers and find out what they can do for you. Ask questions. Contact me and let me know what you want – there’s no commitment. Hopefully, you’ll like what you see and we can start working together.
